PANORAMA _ SKINSHIP
I think of our lifetime as a panorama, a collage of photos and records of moments that are connected or combined.
The years that have passed are a panorama of experiences, and the present exists as a collage.
Everyone is taking various photos in their own lives, and those photos are naturally arranged to form a panorama.
You'll see us flipping through long panoramic tapes to bring out memories of days gone by, and you'll see us changing cameras for future panoramas.
Time has no brakes.
Because "time" doesn't go backwards, [the past and present] can't be [the future], but [the future] can be [the past and present]. So we live the past and present for the future.
But think about it again, everyone.
Without the past and present, how can there be a future?
We often compare life to a marathon, but we often forget that we have a marathon to 'finish'.
If you only run, you won't remember the beautiful scenery, memories, and connections along the way.
Sometimes it's better to walk, rest, and take in all the beauty of your life.
If you find happiness in the process, won't you be happy every day?
In fact, the end of the future is a long "panorama" that only exists as [past and present].
So let's start describing the tracks.
1 / Your Inner Self - SKINSHIP (Original Mix)
“Your Inner Self” | 0 - 01:30
How well do you know yourself?
Aren’t you stuck in a rut and living your life rationalizing yourself?
I imagined a scene where you face yourself that you don't even recognize.
Like in a dream, weightless, floating around, exploring your inner world.
[Song Structure]
Verse 1 drop intro synth (00:12-00:14) - A scene that pulls you strongly inward
Verse 1 - The part of yourself you didn't know
Verse 2 - The part of yourself that you know
2 / I Am Your Controller - SKINSHIP (Original Mix)
“Controller” | 01:30 - 03:52
Electro house song with a fast tempo through verse 3.
I wanted to express a gradual buildup of excitement with a progressively stronger lead sound.
I tried to compose the song without a typical buildup in order to flow naturally into the drop, taking breaks in between with breakbeats to break up the rush.
I want the listeners to feel controlled, just like the title and lyrics of a song.
3 / ICD - SKINSHIP (Original Mix)
"Impulse control disorder” | 03:52 - 07:00
This song expresses the precarious and intense emotions of impulsive thoughts.
The inspiration for the song came after I saw the poster of the movie Scream.
Usually, ADHD, anger control disorders, serious addiction, all kinds of disorders that can't be controlled are called impulse control disorders.
Like boiling water in a kettle, the gauge fills up, and at 4:22, it goes white.
At that moment, as the drop begins, as if a spark were popping up, you have a whole bunch of other impulses. And you're out of control.
With the idea that impulse control disorders, once occurs, should be uncontrollable until the goal is achieved,
I created a song structure that goes directly from the first drop to the second drop after a single buildup.
The scenario of the song is played in four stages.
Impulse [Accumulated] - Impulse [Conflict] - Impulse [Choice] - Impulse [Implement]
Verse 1 Build Up - Accumulation of Impulse
Verse 1 Drop - Impulse conflict
Verse 2, the rising synth sound in the moment before the drop - choice between impulses (the phase that disappears except for one of the many impulsive thoughts)
Verse 2 Drop - Impulse implement
In the second drop, the part where the bass key goes up and down, is the part that expresses the [emotion]. Where "satisfaction and regret for the impulsive action" comes in.
Bass key goes up - Satisfaction
Bass key goes down - Regret
ps. This song was created from an imaginary scenario.
4 / Selection - SKINSHIP (Original Mix)
“Selection” | 07:00 - 09:00
Capture the process of drug selection and exposure, as well as social diffusion and consequences.
Drugs are inherently addictive and dependent. They cloud rational judgment and drive irrational choices.
Instead of choosing drugs, why not choose other experiences and people?
I was inspired to make it after watching videos and articles about the social spread of drugs.
5 / Philosophy Of Dance - MAURO MBS (SKINSHIP REMIX)
“Philosophy Of Dance REMIX” | 09:00 - 11:37
The vocals and lyrics of the original song were so compelling that I started working on it.
I was drawn to the vocals in the first place and focused on reinterpreting the lyrics themselves, rather than reinterpreting the original song itself.
I wanted it to feel serene and majestic at the same time and give you goosebumps.
Theme: Colosseum and Arena.
6 / UFO - SKINSHIP (Original Mix)
"UFO, Unidentified Flying Object" | 11:37 - 13:45
I imagined encounters with UFOs, and what happened in them.
I'm not sure what UFOs look like, but I'm sure there are other creatures besides Earth in the vast universe.
In the first verse, the scene where you are overwhelmed by the enormity of UFOs
In the second verse, the opening of the UFO's entrance and the aliens start speaking to me.
7 / Space Trip - SKINSHIP (Original Mix)
"Space trip” | 13:45 - 16:15
It's a song that started with the same imagination as the previous song.
What does the universe look like?
We've never experienced the universe or seen it in real life, but our imagination naturally creates a picture of it.
When we're told to imagine the universe, we actually think of a "Universes that look alike," which looks the same to everyone, not out of the big categories.
It's because we've all been exposed to the universe that we've never really seen, only through [media].
If there were no media like SNS, TV, or audio in the world, would we imagine the same universe?
In fact, aren't we believing in a universe described by ‘radio waves', the units that make media? Even what the universe is, looks like, and even sounds like.
ps. Main synth = expression of radio waves.
Where the radio waves are regular and then starts to be irregular (14:33) & (15:22)
By choosing the word trip as “a short travel, an experience”, rather than the travel as “a long journey”, I wanted to give impression of experiencing a cross-section of the universe.
Like the brief moment in the movie Dr. Strange when Strange first encounters the Ancient One and experiences the multiverse.
8 / Hometown - SKINSHIP (Original Mix)
"Hometown" | 16:15 - 19:19
I wrote this song with you guys in mind.
I wanted the listener to basically get into the rhythm of the song.
I thought of all of us dancing together and having a good time, so I wanted there to be some kind of chant or lyrics that we could sing together.
I really wanted to have a "one two three four" to sing along to.
The song itself was inspired when I made eye contact with the audience during one of my performances, so I came up with the theme of [youth] [dance] [club].
ps.I think that performing is not something done alone, but with everyone in the venue, and the main character is the audience, you.
When I see you enjoying the music, I, the performer, become the audience.
People say that the place where you were born and raised is called hometown, but the place you miss and love that you keep deep in your heart is also called your hometown, right?
I would be happy if I could be a small part of the hometown in your hearts.
I'm confident that it's a word that can represent the hearts of many musicians.
I'm always so grateful to those who like my music.
9 / LEGO Party - SKINSHIP (Original Mix)
"LEGO Party" | 19:19 - 21:33
What if LEGOs came to life?
Fun imagination: LEGO World! LEGOs are having a late night house party, getting drunk and having fun.
But then a noise complaint comes in and two LEGO cops show up, and it's a precarious moment because the mood could be spoiled, and the party might have to be shut down.
But the LEGO cops were party lovers contrary to our expectation. This is a romantic LEGO town!
The LEGO cops enter the house to give a warning, but don't want to break up the mood and people's memories, so they join the party!
If a LEGO town like this exists in real life, it would be great to be a LEGO :)
The scenario was inspired by the LMFAO - Sorry For party Rocking music video.
This is one of my favorite artists from my childhood. Both the music and the music video are so much fun, I highly recommend watching it.
10 / Dance Floor - SKINSHIP (Original Mix)
"Dance Floor" | 21:33 - 23:50
Adding funkyness with a saxophone solo on a heavy beat.
You can imagine us all dancing together in a small village banquet hall.
Dance with sweat.
Cool saxophone playing and exciting beats.
It's a night in the banquet hall where everyone becomes one and the time is flying by.
11 / Vinyl Snippets - SKINSHIP VIP MIX
"Random Vinyl" (Vinyl Snippets) | 23:50 - 26:28
What comes to mind when you think of a record is old school and classical. So, I’ve combined a variety of classical vocals.
Originally, the three elements of music are melody, rhythm, and harmony, but classical music is mainly composed of melody and rhythm, excluding harmony.
The same is true for Korean traditional music.
I tried to give it a light taste by focusing on beat and the vocal, melody and the beat, going together.
The lead of the drop, which changes from classical piano to electronic piano, is also a listening point for this song.
12 / Future Club - SKINSHIP (Original Mix)
"Future Club" | 26:28 - 28:33
As AI continues to learn, what music will be played in the clubs of the future?
In a world where AI is taking over many human roles, will we ever see the day when it takes over performance culture as well? It may already be close enough.
p.s. The repetitive, error-ridden AI voice, expresseing ”After all, AI can't fully share emotions with humans”.
13 / Immune To Pain - SKINSHIP (Original Mix) _ 90bpm
"Immune To Pain" | 28:33 - end
We will continue to live our lives taking pictures with our eyes.
In order to create the future you want, it's important to look forward, but it's also important to look back.
I made this song after watching the movie 8mile, which is based on Eminem's true story.
If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it.
We're used to living for the future.
Waiting for the rain to stop to see a rainbow.
But guys, why don't you put down the umbrella and enjoy the rain?
Living today for tomorrow is great, but wouldn't it be nice to live a tomorrow that remembers today?
After all, every day you live will be today and yesterday.
Rainbows will have a different meaning to someone who enjoys the rain.
