    STEREOTYPE _ SKINSHIP

In a society inundated by an overwhelming flood of information, we are hit by a wave of fatigue; instead of trying to 'understand' what we see and hear, we simply classify it.

In this way, a society that merely consumes tastes becomes fully entrenched.

The power of this selective consumption creates yet another set of stereotypes.
Even though we exist within the same space and time, we naturally grow more distant from one another.

What an irony—communication remains in a drought, even as we face a harvest of things to see, hear, and feel.

The songs in this set are all about conversation—conversations with others, with media or objects, and even conversations with oneself.

In this day and age, we watch and listen without ceasing, yet the overflow of content never ends.

I find myself contemplating a troubling thought: Could this very abundance be fueling the world’s countless prejudices?

In this rapidly changing world, have I unknowingly adapted to the point where I am slowly being consumed?

With these reflections as a backdrop, I invite you into the stories behind each track.

    1 / Chunhyang’s Love Song - SKINSHIP (Original Mix)

    “Love Song for Chunhyang” | 0 - 03:49

This track is an EDM reinterpretation of Sarang-ga, the song of love, from the traditional Korean opera Chunhyangga.

Sarang-ga depicts the first encounter and blossoming love between Lee Mong-ryong and Chunhyang and is the oldest and most beloved section of the entire opera.

Since I was integrating the distinct characteristics of Korean traditional music, I didn't want to approach it lightly.

Most of the sounds in this track are live recordings of traditional instruments, and following extensive study and advice from traditional music performers,

I worked to honor and preserve the essential characteristics of Samulnori (Korean traditional percussion music).

For the vocals, I used the actual voices of numerous traditional opera master singers to craft the Aniri sections—the parts performed as a spoken song without melody before the main singing of the opera begins.

    Track Structure
    0~41 [Lee Mong-ryong’s confesses love]
00:41 - 01:04 [Lee Mong-ryong returns as the Secret Royal Inspector]
01:04 - 01:34 [Everyone enjoys the festive spirit]
01:34 - 01:49 [Lee Mong-ryong makes his way toward Chunhyang]
01:49 - 02:04 [The moment right before Lee Mong-ryong faces Chunhyang again]

02:04 - 02:34 [The Secret Royal Inspector arrives; everyone clears the way]
    02:34 - 03:04 [Everyone dances and celebrates]
    03:04 - 03:19 [Lee Mong-ryong takes Chunhyang’s hand and promises their future]

03:19 - end [The satisfying resolution of justice prevailing]

In creating and performing this track, I found myself reminiscing about my childhood—learning Samulnori and taking part in all those small yet diverse performances.

Although I did not major in traditional Korean music, the process of capturing the essence of the Korean heung (joyous excitement) through the fusion of Samulnori and modern EDM was an invaluable learning experience.

I am proud that the track came together with such a vibrant spirit; it’s a project that still leaves me with a deep sense of fulfillment.

*For the Taepyeongso parts, I designed and modified saxophone sounds to fit the unique characteristics of traditional Korean music.
*The track’s overall vibe and style were inspired by Gungjung-aksa (royal court musicians) from the soundtrack of the film Jeon Woo-chi.

P.S. Special thanks to my junior colleague, Konic, who dressed in a traditional Minbok and played the Kkaenggwari on Halloween.

    2 / Polaroid - SKINSHIP (Original Mix)

    “Polaroid Camera” | 03:49 - 05:49

One day, I came across a Polaroid of a group of women in a vibrant, joyful moment.

It immediately brought to mind the "Seven Princesses" from the movie Sunny.

Feeling that lively atmosphere, I began to wonder what kind of conversation was shared just before the shutter clicked. That curiosity is what led me to start working on this track.

04:04, 05:04 -> Synth chiming in to respond to the vocals, creating a sense of dialogue.

04:35, 05:23, 05:38 -> Playfully twisting the musical lines to capture a sense of high spirits

Reminded of the living portraits in Harry Potter, I find myself entering the frame.

Amidst the lively chatter, I could almost see the photographer smiling brightly behind the lens. :)

3 / God Damn - SKINSHIP (Original Mix)

    “There we go! (In a positive sense)” | 05:49 - 07:37

We often find comfort in the familiar, yet the moment it becomes a repetitive cycle, it can easily turn into boredom.

Conversely, while we are drawn to the unconventional, it can sometimes be met with resistance.

I wanted to create a track where these two worlds coexist.

This track begins as a seemingly ordinary song but gradually evolves through unconventional vocals and soundscapes.

[The Hook: A point for everyone to sing along]

    06:51 - “God Damn!”

The track is built for the listener’s perspective to shift as it unfolds.

As layers of sound are added and refined, the track’s unique charm slowly reveals itself.

Inspired by: The look on my own face while listening to music with pure boredom.

4 / The Thief - Avrosse, Louie Cut (SKINSHIP FLIP)

    “Thief” Reinterpretation | 07:37 - 08:40

This track is a reinterpretation of a song I had on repeat back in 2014, reimagined through my own style.

Even with a decade behind me, whenever I play this song, I am instantly pulled back to the person I was then.

The songs I once lived with act as a bridge—a medium that connects my past, present, and future.

It leaves me curious: which songs allow you to share a moment across time with your younger self?

5 / Body Language - SKINSHIP (Original Mix)

    “Let the body talk” | 08:40 - 11:03

    “Let the body talk”
This was the core phrase that defined the creation of this track.

True to those words, I wanted to create a beat that hits your body before your mind can even catch up.

The key listening points of this track are a rhythm that sparks an inner dance without you even realizing it, and the structure that unfolds like a calm, nonchalant dialogue, steering clear of the predictable.

The inspiration came to me unexpectedly at a Gentle Monster store, as I tried on and swapped between various sunglasses.

As the track unfolds, you will hear an array of intricately crafted sound effects.

These represent various lenses of sunglasses—elements that create different perspectives even as you stay in the same space.

Do you see yourself now—sunglasses on, caught up in an inner dance within the music?

6 / Born To Funk - SKINSHIP (Original Mix)

    “A Sing-Along Performance” | 11:03 - 14:02

I always envision myself becoming one with the crowd on a grand stage, our voices rising together in a massive sing- along.

I believe there is no moment I feel more alive than when the images in my mind cross over into reality.

The reason I chose a life in the arts was to share a moment of absolute time with the audience.

This track is my vision of a magnificent stage—a brilliant night of call-and-response and voices rising in unison that I wish would never end.

7 / Do It - houserulez (SKINSHIP FLIP)

    “Just do it!!” | 14:02 - 15:48

Right around the age when I first started wearing a school uniform, I had teachers at school—but they were also in the Mickey Mouse MP3 player I’d borrow from my friend.

House Rulez’s music was like an older brother to me, an adult figure who always inspired me to dream bigger.

They have so many incredible tracks, but “Do It” has always been a personal favorite of mine.

The first half of this track stays true to the original, while the second half is a clean House flip that reinterprets the song yet maintains its original vibe.

In life, a "world without me" literally cannot exist.

While our choices and actions might lead to satisfaction, I believe regret is also essential nourishment for growth.

Isn't learning how to get back up when you fall just as important a process?

I hope you listen to yourself and find your own answers.

Then, with “DO IT” as your answer, I hope you dream and act to your heart’s content, just as the original lyrics inspire us to do.

    8 / Bengal - SKINSHIP (Original Mix)

    “Bengal Cat” | 15:48 - 17:48

This track was inspired by a Bengal cat darting away in surprise after causing a bit of mischief.

I've always felt that adding claps to a track really brings out the sense of rhythm.

Equating "running away" with "sprinting," I intentionally left out claps from the first and second drops to emphasize that rush, while using an agile bassline to mirror the cat's movement.

Finally, the song’s fast-paced progression—chosen to reflect the natural high energy of a Bengal—is also a key feature of this track.

P.S. I previously released another cat-themed track called "Maine Coon.“
Listening to these tracks in order allows the story to unfold, connecting the narrative for a more engaging experience.

    9 / Hunch - SKINSHIP (Original Mix)

    “Today’s Hunch” | 17:48 - 20:03

I hear there’s a fun home party tonight.

Great food, new faces, lively chatter and laughter, and high-energy music.

Our character begins picking out an outfit from their closet with an excited heart.

But then, a sudden thought hits him.

I’m all dressed up to go out, but what if I don’t make any friends? What if the night doesn't end well?

This track captures the character’s worry of what the party might be like.

The track plays out a worst-case scenario: he tries talking to new people but ends up not making any friends and spending the night on his own.

    Scenario
Verse | 17:48 - 18:03 | Stands before his closet, picking out the "perfect" outfit to fit in at the party

    Build Up | 18:03 - 18:18 | A sudden bad feeling
    1 Drop | 18:18 - 18:33 | A dark daydream begins
Build Up | 18:33 - 18:48 | Walks around, trying to strike up conversations
    2 Drop | 18:48 - 19:03 | Still lost in the daydream
Build Up | 19:03 - 19:18 | Tries even harder to talk to people
3 Drop | 19:18 - 20:03 | Ignored at every turn and spends the night alone—then returns to reality

This track is best experienced as a short film.

P.S. It captures the character's imagined anxiety about the party and is not based on a true story.

For the record, I’m great at hanging out by myself. :)

10 / Moon Walk - SKINSHIP (Original Mix)

    “A Bicycle Ride on the Moon” | 20:03 - 22:46

This track was born from imagining what it’s like to ride a bicycle on the moon.
I truly love the process of channeling experiences I’ve never lived into this kind of shared emotional journey.

I hope that when you ride, this track entirely untethers you from the physical space around you, as if you are riding a bicycle on the moon at this very moment.

It seems that while final memories stay vivid, our first ones often fade into a haze.

I’m pulled back to the narrow alley of my childhood home—the image of my father holding the bicycle seat from behind, teaching me how to ride.

Perhaps we’ve already lived a moment even more liberating than a bicycle ride on the moon.

11 / Drinking Game - SKINSHIP (Original Mix)

    “Drinking Games” | 22:46 - 26:02

I believe drinking games are a universal language—the kind of culture you only truly learn as you drink.

This track captures our character in the middle of a crowded gathering, gradually losing himself to the night through one drinking game after another.

Every game has its own cadence and rhythm, and there are also moments of explaining rules, taking penalty shots, and drifting into other stories.

As the drinking games go on round after round, our character goes from denying their reality to finally getting swept up in the high.

I wanted the recurring synth line to mirror the character's state, acting as the slurred voice of someone truly drunk. If you listen closely to the lyrics as well, you’ll find it adds another layer of fun.

The peak drunk point is at 25:17.

Themes: Back in the days of college retreats; back in the days of military leave as a Private, drinking with friends

12 / Faint Memory Of Green Island - SKINSHIP (Original Mix)

“Faint Memories of the green Island” | 26:02 - end

To my six-year-old self, when playing with friends at kindergarten was the entire world, the one small playground in the neighborhood was a vast island.

Despite my parents’ cautions that it was dangerous, I wouldn't even think of coming down from the jungle gym, laughing so joyfully as I rode the slide.

I remember how, after crying loudly over a skinned knee from playing too wildly, I stayed relatively quiet for a while, teasing my friends with foxtails and blowing grass whistles.

    Green Island.
But how could I possibly remember a color that I, as someone who is color-blind, cannot even see?

The playground where I ran and played as a child.

Perhaps it was simply the vibrancy of that warm memory.

I trace back the memories of that day, of blowing on grass whistles.

Concept: Faint memories of childhood, the present and the past, reminiscence

If I were to ask myself, Which is more important—the process or the result?

I would choose the process because the process is the very time I spend living, while the result is merely the outcome of that time.

In the life ahead, there will be far more days of the process than there are moments of results.

We talk to others all the time, but we rarely talk to ourselves.

We often suppress the thoughts that are always on our minds—worries, fears, and things we put off with various excuses.

Could it be that these feelings of fear and uncertainty are just fixed beliefs we hold about ourselves?

Truth is, we already know that even the hardest times feel like nothing once they pass.
Just as we know that being honest with ourselves is the path to becoming our most authentic selves.

I believe a fixed belief isn't necessarily a wrong or mistaken thought—it is closer to an attitude of not wanting to think.

It makes me wonder once again: When was the last time I truly had a conversation with myself?

    - Stereotype, THE END -
